Matthew Taylor Panama Canal constructions begins (ME)

 

In the mid-1800 panama was being controlled by Colombia. So America’s secretary of state offered Colombia ten million dollars pulse $250,000 a year in order to be able to reconstruct the Panama Canal. America also wanted to control a tiny strip of land on both sides of the canal. The Colombian government thought the price that America offered was too low and they feared losing the canal. So they refused the offer from America.

The Panamanians have been against the Colombians control over them since the mid 18 hundreds wonted their own independents the fear of losing the canal has been the main reason for Colombia wanting to own panama and panama’s reason for not leaving Colombia’s control. Now the French had a fear that America would rebuild the canal in Nicaragua instead of the Panama Canal. Since the French and the Panamanians wanted the canal to be rebuilt they decided that they were going to make their own deal with America the French company arranged for a small army to stage upraises in panama. Since Colombia tried entering fear president Roosevelt sent ten American war ships to go to panama after sing this the Colombians went away. After a few days panama got their independents from Colombia they signed a treaty with America to giving them the right to rebuild the Panama Canal and right to control a tiny strip of land on both sides of the canal.
