Jacob Riis; Born May 3rd,
1849 in Ribe, Denmark. He is the 3rd child out of 15 kids, before he
migrated to the United States; he worked as a carpenter at Copenhagen. He went
thru many jobs, but in 1877 he became a police reporter, for the New York
Tribune. He Took this opportunity to release his journalistic skills, to speak
to the public with his words of wisdom, He mainly spoke about the how the poor
where the victims, for as he has been below poverty sleeping in police station
lodges. 1889, an account of city life His photographs illustrated by Scribner’s
magazine this sparked up a lot of interest and about a year later, Jacob Riis
publishes his book “How the other Half Lives”.
