Food and drug act


Between the dates of 1898 and 1899, Solders of the Spanish American war where dying from poorly preserved meat. A group of about 12 people all got together to come up with a solution, basically they were used as lab rats. They all agreed to eat preservatives of the time period suck as formaldehyde. This group of people was known as the “Poison Squad”. Directed by the god father of the food and drug act Dr. Harvey Wiley.
Children in St. Lewis, and Camden in 1901 where dying from tainted vaccines. Which cause the drug part of food and drug act to perspire. In February of 1906 there was Upton Sinclair publishes, a company that will package the meat. And June 30 of 1906, Theodor Roosevelt passed the food and drug act. Also passed the meat inspection act.
