America Declares war on Spain (ME) Matthew Taylor

The Spanish ambassador wrote a letter to America saying that William McKinley was week and a bidder for the admiration of the crowed.  Somehow on February 15, 1898, the Maine sat Havana Harbor it was suddenly ripped apart by a massive explosion. Even though no one was sure how the explosion happened; they still pointed fingers at Spain.

Many Americans thought that the explosion was an act of sabotage from Spanish agents. America wanted McKinley to spend $ 50 million for war preparation, and it would cause them grate dept.   McKinley felt a great deal of pressure from the Republican Party, because if McKinley did not go to war then the democrats would win the election that year.
